Are there “Try Outs” for the dive team?

No tryouts needed! We welcome divers of all levels, from complete beginners to seasoned athletes. Our fantastic coaches are here to support you every step of the way, making sure you have a blast while learning this amazing sport.

Ready to give it a try? Just come to a practice! We encourage new divers to experience the fun before committing. Once you arrive at the pool, look for one of our friendly Dive Reps, sign a waiver (parents must sign) and you're all set to fall in love with the sport and the team!

I have kids in different age groups. Can they attend the same practice time?

No. Divers are asked to attend the practice for their age group, unless requested otherwise by the Head Coach. Each practice session is geared towards that particular age group. Additionally, grouping kids by age allows for less crowding in the dive boards and a better practice experience for all.

My child wants to dive but has other activities **until school is over**. Can they still join the Dive Team?

Of course! Many divers participate in a variety of after school activities, some of which conflict with dive team practice while school is still in session.

The coaches ask that divers attend as many practices as possible, but understand that there may be conflicts until school is out.

Can my child be on the dive team and other OSRC teams like swim and tennis?

Yes!!! For the first time ever, participation in all three OSRC teams – swim, dive, and tennis – is officially a go! We've carefully aligned practice schedules to avoid conflicts, allowing your child to dominate the pool, tennis court, and diving board if that's their dream.

This summer you can unleash your child's inner sports titan and let them explore their athletic passions at OSRC!

What time should my diver arrive to practice?

Warm Ups are extremely important for is very important. Divers need to arrive on time or a few minutes before their practice time to warm up.

What happens if my diver can't make a practice?

Please let the Head Coach know in advance that your child won’t be able to attend practice, either in person or via e-mail.

If your diver wants to make up that practice, please let our Clinic Head Coach know so she can plan accordingly.

What swimsuits should divers wear?

Dive into Style!

For practice: Divers should wear comfortable and supportive training attire, such as one-piece swimsuits, speedo briefs, or jammers. This ensures optimal performance and safety during practice sessions. Please refrain from wearing swim trunks, wet shirts/suits, or bikinis for practice sessions.

For meets: Show your team spirit! Divers are asked to wear official Oakton Otters swimsuits during competitions. These stylish suits not only represent your team pride but also ensure proper fit and functionality for diving. Please refrain from wearing swimsuits with other logos, such as your winter dive team's. Team swimsuits are conveniently available for purchase at the beginning of the season during summer registration and through our online store.

Are practices cancelled if it rains?

Otter practices and meets are run rain or shine!

  • Practices and meets will be paused only in the event of (1) heavy rain resulting in the lifeguards not being able to see the bottom of the pool, OR boards becoming slippery and unsafe, and (2) thunderstorms.
  • Should we cancel a practice or a meet due to weather, we will immediately notify parents via email and we will also post it on the News Section of this website.
  • If cancellation occurs during an ongoing practice or meet, all divers will remain in the social room with their coaches until they are picked up by a parent.

Make ups after cancellations:

  • Practices will not be made up.
  • Dive Meets will be rescheduled as soon as possible for a date that works for both teams competing.
