Here are some things to think about when picking your positions:

Do I sign up for a Dual meet or a Developmental meet?

If your diver is new to the sport, they are absolutely welcome to participate in Developmental meets. So a Developmental meet is a good option. In addition, all Otter divers are encouraged to attend every social event, so these are also good volunteer options.

Dual meets are restricted to 32 divers who are selected by the coaches. These are generally geared toward experienced divers with multiple dives, but every diver is evaluated by age group for participation.

Am I qualified to work at a dive meet?

The positions at dive meets that require experience/training are Referee, Secretary, and Judge. Persons interested in learning to judge, can attend an NVSL (Northern Virginia Swimming League) run Judging clinic on Sunday, June 2nd 10:30am-12:00pm AT Overlee Community Association.

What if I need to change a position?

Complications arise, so if you need to make any changes after you register, please start by trying to find your own replacement and alerting the team rep of the change. If you know of a conflict ahead of time and are not able to find a replacement, please let a Dive Rep or the Volunteer Coordinator know as soon as possible, and they may be able to help find a replacement and reassign you for another opportunity.

What if I don’t have the time to volunteer but I want my child(ren) to dive?

You MUST sign up for the volunteer requirement – that is the number of positions per family that are needed to run this dive season. Remember – our children are counting on us to run these meets and social events!  That said, please let us know your time limitations; we are happy to try and coordinate with you in a way that fulfills your volunteer requirements.  

Where are the volunteer obligations for Divisionals and All Stars?

If you have a child diving in either of these additional (invite only) meets, you will need to be available to volunteer. Volunteering at these meets does not count towards satisfying your volunteer requirement for our regular season. These are separate events for which volunteer sign-ups will be sent out to participants once selection/qualification occurs.
